Opening up access to climate change research - A call for action!

Planet Earth in the palm of a hand.

When: April 10, 2025, 5-7 PM (EST). Where: Hybrid - Rush Rhees Library, Gamble Room (3rd floor), University of Rochester.

More than half of all climate change research is locked behind paywalls. Today, climate change advocates, policy-makers, activists, and people all over the world do not have access to publicly funded research about our most pressing collective challenge: solving the climate crisis. Let’s change that!

In this hybrid event, Monica Granados, Director of Open Science at Creative Commons, will describe "Paper Pledge for the Planet," an initiative that empowers researchers to take action by opening up access to climate change publications. During the presentation, she will discuss how openly licensed publications can facilitate not only access to knowledge but also its mobilization.

Schedule:
- Presentation and discussion: 5-6 PM
- Networking: 6-7 PM. Refreshments available.

The presentation will be streamlined at Rush Rhees Library, Gamble Room (3rd floor), followed by some time for networking for in-person participants.
